The colours, the exceptional light, the authenticity and the picturesqueness of this small Catalan fishing port attracted the painters Matisse and Derain as early as 1905. A real postcard, with its exquisite bay surmounted by a bell tower, its mill and its castle, Collioure nevertheless cultivates its authenticity, notably through the development of its land. For several centuries, Collioure has been famous for the preparation of a typically Catalan dish - anchovies. Collioure is also surrounded by terraced vineyards which produce excellent wines, including the Banyuls AOC, a natural sweet wine aged in oak barrels.
